Hello. I work with people doing research in conversational analysis. Their=20 current source of study is a corpus of audiovisual interviews. As a first step, they must transcribe part of the audiovisual document=20 into a format suitable for detailed analysis. Hence they would need a=20 player to view the document they want to transcribe. Thus I'm looking=20 for an existing efficient and flexible multimedia player that could be=20 used as a component in a GUI transcription software. Such softwares are being developed (tasx, exmaralda, agtk) but they=20 currently have limited (AVI, MPEG1) or no support for video formats. I was wondering if xine could be used in that way. For example, it=20 should be possible to partially redirect sound and video data to another=20 output apart from the usual ones (i.e. sound device and display). Sound=20 data for example will be used to draw a plot of the sound waveform,=20 where a cursor should indicate the current position in the playback=20 (this might be done with the Snack library)... I'd appreciate if you could point me to the relevant parts of the code=20 as I'm rather ignorant of multimedia codecs and file formats (I know C=20 though) . Thanks for any suggestions.
