I've encountered the same problem and come to the conclusion it's a permissions issue - when I run Xine as root everything works. If I run as a user the d5d plugin will get the decrypt key, but won't be able to play the dvd. The thing is, I can't figure out what permissions to change : ). I've chowned everything I can think of - the plugin libs, all of Xine, Xine libs, the libdecss libs - to the user, but still only root plays encrypted dvd's.
