Category: Installer Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 2 Private: No Submitted By: John (vombatus) Assigned to: Christopher Smart (csmart) Summary: Sourceforge download page defaults to the tar version Initial Comment: Using my browser on a windows XP machine, I went to the download page for Xena. There was a big green button which said "Download Now", so I pressed it. Automagically, a file was downloaded to my machine - xena-5.0.0-sunjre.tar.bz2. Attempting to open this file, Windows told me that it could not open the file. It was not obvious that I had to not click on the big green button, but browse the 'all files' bit to find the windows installer. Does sourceforge have the functionality to detect the operating system of the requesting client, and offer the correct version for that platform? If not, is there any way of having some text near the big green button that tells people where to go if they want something other than the 'default' version. Some people would get very discouraged if they hit the very obvious download button and couldnt open the resulting file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=577092&aid=2968348&group_id=85722 |
