Then I tried to logon to CTLMF128 and z/VM told me it did not exist. That sort of makes me wonder if DIRMAINT attempted a DIRECTXA - update-in-place or not? I think sometime around midnight DIRMAINT does a DIRM DIRECT (DIRECTXA) command to refresh the object directory... That may be a clue as to why CLONE only works once a day.
