Figure out where yum is on your system, and find out what package is providing it: rpm -qf `which yum` This will report whatever package is providing yum (if any). Obviously, yum shouldn't be uninstalling itself...but that's what your symptoms are beginning to look like...though it seems to still be partly installed, which is really weird. The best thing may just be to reinstall yum directly from an RPM--download it from the 5.2/updates directory from any CentOS mirror, and install it with "rpm -Uvh yum-blahblah.noarch.rpm". Obviously, watch for and deal with dependencies and other errors. > It's correct that it's added somewhere in 2007 (storagefactory module), in an > older version I've running it's absent > I'm running cent os 5.2 ( that was in that same update) > > no additional repositories installed > > very clean standard install. > > Joe Cooper schreef: >> Howdy Ron, >> >> Our script doesn't install Python or yum, and we don't provide either >> package (we do provide a yum version on CentOS 3, but not many folks are >> running such an old CentOS at this point--though you haven't told us >> what version you're running--looks like maybe 4, which we don't provide >> yum for, as it's the default package management tool).
