I see from the mailing list archive that someone asked this question in the past but there was no final answer and still gets no answer. If I use Webmin to backup to a file on a remote system using ssh I get the following output: DUMP: Connection to dumbo established. DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Thu Jan 29 13:47:47 2004 DUMP: Dumping /dev/sda5 (/usr (dir /r)) to /var/henry_backup/r on host root@dumbo DUMP: Added inode 8 to exclude list (journal inode) DUMP: Added inode 7 to exclude list (resize inode) DUMP: Label: /usr DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files] DUMP: mapping (Pass II) [directories] DUMP: estimated 205651 tape blocks. DUMP: /var/henry_backup/r: No such file or directory DUMP: Cannot open output "/var/henry_backup/r": No such file or directory DUMP: fopen on /dev/tty fails: No such device or address DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted. DUMP: close: Bad file descriptor If I create the target file with touch then the backup will succeed. If the target does not exist the the backup does not seem to be able to create the remote file. 'rmt' is installed on the target server. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
