I think it's really very difficult to make a case for some ephemeral responsibility to "the public". While people who go all-out (Like Jamie) deserve kudos, criticizing someone else for not going that distance is like kicking the guy handing you a fiver because the guy up the street gave you a twenty. But, In the end, I bet if you sent the author a Sparc machine, he'd consider hacking it up for Solaris; the same thing probably applies to a BSD box. J.
