I did add in a range mapping capability that takes advantage of GL for all data types during rendering. Joe -----Original Message----- From: vxl...@li... Subject: [Vxl-maintainers] vgui and efficient rendering Folks, I'd like to revisit the whole image rendering framework in vgui. Currently, vgui will take an image and convert it to a "best" format, and keep a cached image of that format. Often, however, this "best" is arbitrarily chosen to be GL_RGBA or GL_RGB byte pixels. However, OpenGL itself has mechanisms for rendering images stored in memory as bitmap, unsigned and signed char, floats, etc. With OpenGL hardware being so common, I'd like to begin to update the rendering interface to let OpenGL deal with the conversion issues where possible. This implies, at the first stage, removing the support for Mesa and Hermes acceleration. I don't believe they are really used, so I don't consider that a problem. Any comments? Thanks, Amitha. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: NEC IT Guy Games.
