Adding an entry there is a good place to start, but you'll need to do some more coding as well.

A next step may be to create a characterAction() similar to the existing genreAction(), regionAction(), etc. Also, it may be necessary to add a 'Browse/Character' route to the configuration file here:

I suspect some additional work may be necessary, but I can't remember all the details off the top of my head. If you have trouble proceeding, please share any error messages and I can provide more advice.

Is there any other page I need to modify to add Character facet

This functionality is defined by the BrowseController:

It should be possible to add another facet by modifying this controller; if you trace through all of the code related to a facet that is similar to the one you wish to add, that should help you figure out what needs to be added.

It would be nice if we could make this code a little more modular and extensible - right now, it is not as flexible as I would like. If you have any suggestions for refactoring, I would welcome them. In the meantime, let me know if more specific questions come up once you have begun looking at this code.
