Hi, Daniel; Hello Demian! Just having a chance to read e-mail now, so sorry for the delay in replying with something that might help, I reckon. MARC21 is here to stay and sooner or later UNIMARC, UKMARC, MAB and alike will be history (haven't been in IFLA Congress in Finland, but for sure that is the general feeling -- also ILS vendors have enough headaches and always UNIMARC and alike suffer delays because of the adaption they have to do and translation of help environment, so don't be surprise if from a version to another they announce the new one will only support MARC21. Also for sharing and treatment proposes it better to have the aleph_dump.mrc in MARC21 so to have the record in VuFind in MARC21 format (and all the benefits that brings). I've reversed engineered the MARC21 to UNIMARC Ex Libris "gives away" in their "a20" environment (folder /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/uni01/tab/tab04), the one you should not change in any case, even in the event of a nearby world ending. So place those "inverted" (UNIMARC to MARC21) in a new lines group in our “Aleph user environment space” (u20_1) proper file: /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/xxx01/tab/tab04 and defined them as U2M21 in /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/bua01/tab/tab_fix : U2M21 fix_doc_tab04_05 (equals the U2M21 are defined in lines starting with “05” in tab04 I do not do a differential (new or altered records) import, instead do a full import (a question of a few minutes for our 236K records -- some very complete). Here is the script to dump Aleph records I using – bua01 is our main/unique bib library – sorry for the PT in the file names, but I guess it is to find out what they mean, looking at the procedure that generate them: csh -f /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/aleph/proc/p_ret_01 BUA01,,regs_todos,000000000,999999999,,00,00000000,99999999,00000000,99999999,,AND,NOT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,00000000,99999999,ALEPH,; csh -f /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/aleph/proc/p_ret_03 BUA01,regs_wbas99,wbas^=^99,; csh -f /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/aleph/proc/p_ret_10 BUA01,regs_todos,NOT,regs_wbas99,regs_todos_sem_wbas99,; csh -f /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/aleph/proc/p_print_03 BUA01,regs_todos_sem_wbas99,ALL,,,,,,,,regs_todos_sem_wbas99.seq,A,,,,N,; cat /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/bua01/scratch/regs_todos_sem_wbas99.seq | sed 's/>>//g' | sed 's/<<//g' > /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/bua01/scratch/regs_todos_sem_wbas99_sem_bicos.seq; csh -f /exlibris/aleph/a20_1/aleph/proc/p_file_12 BUA01,regs_todos_sem_wbas99_sem_bicos.seq,regs_todos_sem_wbas99_sem_bicos.mrc,N,U2M21, Sorry, tried but could not connect to Aleph (momentary access problem to UA Computer Center VPN), so could not share now the lines (also, haven't had lunch yet -- 6pm over here, small detail, please ignore), but it would be my pleasure to share it ASA I have access to Aleph. What do you say (all, about having VuFind official format as MARC21 approach instead of importing in different formats)? All the best, Filipe -------------------------- Filipe Manuel S.
