As for future improvements to the facet UI, it's definitely on the table. Here's the JIRA ticket: http://vufind.org/jira/browse/VUFIND-177 No timeline or specific plan on this, but I definitely want to see it happen eventually; feel free to add comments to the ticket in the meantime if you have thoughts on the matter. - Demian *From:* Greg Pendlebury [mailto:gre...@gm...] *Sent:* Thursday, March 11, 2010 6:58 PM *To:* Mitchell, Erik *Cc:* vuf...@li... *Subject:* Re: [VuFind-Tech] How to limit to multiple formats Hi Erik, Something like this might work: http://vufind.zsr.wfu.edu/Search/Home?lookfor=cats%20AND%20%28format:%22CD%22%20OR%20format:%22DVD%22%29&type=all&filter[]=format:%22Electronic%22&submit=Find<http://vufind.zsr.wfu.edu/Search/Home?lookfor=cats%20AND%20%28format:%22CD%22%20OR%20format:%22DVD%22%29&type=all&filter%5b%5d=format:%22Electronic%22&submit=Find> The problem is you want multiple formats and are using the filter field to get them. All filters are implicitly AND'd. Adding the the parameters as an OR query in the search field gets you the results you want... but it looks uglier, and isn't in the facet UI any more. I recall some discussion a while ago regarding making facets more powerful like this (so that users could tick multiple facets), but I'm not sure where it went. I suspect it was in the 'too hard' basket for now. When I was at the USQ Library we added tiers like 'format' and 'subformat' to solve the problem in a different way, so the format 'Book' had subformats 'Printed Book' and 'eBook' : http://libcat.usq.edu.au/Search/Home?lookfor=&type=all&submit=Find&filter[]=format:%22Book%22<http://libcat.usq.edu.au/Search/Home?lookfor=&type=all&submit=Find&filter%5b%5d=format:%22Book%22> It's not as flexible since we had to index in a specific way and tweak facet display, but there aren't that many areas where this was used anyway, book/ebook and vhs/dvd are the only ones that spring to mind. Hope that helps, Greg On 12 March 2010 06:54, Mitchell, Erik <mit...@wf...> wrote: Hi all, We are writing a scoped search box for our website and want to limit the search to a few different formats (so that the search returns books and ebooks but not journal articles). I tried working with some variations on the advanced search screen but could not write a URL that worked for basic search. My closest attempt was: http://vufind.zsr.wfu.edu/Search/Home?lookfor=cats&type=all&filter[]=format<http://vufind.zsr.wfu.edu/Search/Home?lookfor=cats&type=all&filter%5b%5d=format> :"CD"&filter[]=format:"DVD"&filter[]=format:"Electronic"&submit=Find Has anyone done something like this?
