Why?

Gdal is the standard solution for georeferenced image.

Projection

Currently only three supported projections (mercator, UTM and LatLon):

• vik_viewport_screen_to_coord
• vik_viewport_coord_to_screen

Simplest solution: proj.4

Integration

It is not reasonable to adapt images in a given projection to an other projection. So, viking has a viewport's projection and displays only images in this projection (see Display menu).

With proj.4, we have a really important list of supported projections (against the 3 current). We can imagine the following: - each (bitmap) map layer express its projection - the Display menu collects all the projections of enlisted map layer
