DEM layer is not working correctly and crashing. I can add a DEM layer, but when I try to download data from the SRTM source nothing is downloaded. If I manually download the SRTM data and try to add it to my map Viking crashes.
I am running the latest Ubuntu version 0.9.9-3 (lucid) on Ubuntu 10.04LTS.
A gdm back trace is attached.

I just tried v0.9.9-3 and I could not get the DEM stuff to crash.
Downloading from the SRTM source seems to work too.
I'm not sure of your exact download source, I used http://dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/version2_1/SRTM3/
NB Viking seems to choose it's own internal cache structure for DEMs(.viking-maps/srtm3-<Continent>/<lat/lon>.hgt.zip)
So despite the initial settings it will add stuff to where it likes.
Rob,
That is the source that I used to download the DEM data.
I have tried removing and then installing Viking with no change in the problem that I am having. The auto download of DEM data does not work and if I try to manually ad data Viking crashes.
The final place where multi thread update conflicts were resolved in version 1.4
Another fix was applied in 1.4 to work with manually added data.
Unfortunately I still don't understand why the DEM download did not work.
If that is still an issue and repeatable with the latest 1.4 version please create a new bug tracker item and attach the out from running from the command line with the options '-Vd' to print diagnostic information.
