Hey guys. My first post here, so hopefully this will make it through the mailing list properly... Regarding warnings, I do all of my development in MSVC with warnings set to 4 and treat warnings as errors. That's the way we developed for Prophecy. I can't tell you how many bugs we avoided by doing that. When we moved the Wing 3 code base from MetaWare over to MSVC, things broke all over the place, most often in very strange in mysterious ways, because warnings weren't properly addressed. Of course, depending on what you're doing, developing with warnings set to 4 and treating warnings as errors can make things tricky. STL, especially the version that comes with MSVC, is chock full of warnings. On Prophecy, we never used STL, so we didn't run into that problem. For my personal projects, I ended up writing my own versions of the STL components I tend to use. Pete |
