posted by indigo Strontium 2.4 is now on CVS and a standard part of FRuSTRaTiON. So far thread sleeping/waking, process killing, and all that other good thread stuff is supported. Timers can be set, but not destroyed (but you can wait for them to expire). Critical sections are done. Locking functions (spinlocks, semaphores) have not been started, but they arn't needed just yet since only one ish is running at once.
When threads have been shown to be stable on a number of real boxes (works on mine) FRuSTRaTiON 0.4 will be released. I should have some testing images out by tomorrow. Otherwise, build from CVS or try http://xgs.dhs.org/ext2.flp.bz2 (and older image with strontium 2.3).
BTW...the project looks kinda dead, but it's not; I have just been working on the thread engine. Tomorrow you should see the SF activity jump up as I have comitted over 2000 lines of code today, and Dave comitted his init a few days ago. |

posted by indigo I have resolved the bochs bug, which was partially my error, and partially that bochs is so slow :P The problem was that actidentally set too fast, so nothing but the interupt handler was ever being executed.
Now the threading part of strontium ][ is 90% complete. Multithreading/multiprocess should be working by the end of this weekend. Also left to be done is the locking functions (semaphore and spinlocks) and timer stuff. |

posted by indigo I have found a bug in bochs that is hindering my further development on the thread engine. I sent a CC of the message to the uuu-devel ML; it basicly boils down to: bochs is getting stuck in an endless loop because it doesn't advance EIP for some odd reason. The code works on vmware and 2 real computers, but I could really use the debugging capabilities of bochs to find my problem in the thread engine.
Besides the problem I can't figure out, the thread engine is almost done. Threads and processes can be created and destroyed. I can sleep threads, but when I wake them up I get a GPF. I suspect memory corruption. |

posted by eks a new system initialization sequence has been suggested on the uuu-devel mailing list. Reactions seems to indicate that the new system will be more appreciated than the current one.
Implementation of it is partly completed, ext2_boot.bin got a boot_init branch that you can browse to view the current code status.
For more details, please look at the uuu-devel mailing list archives.
