Stepping 0 K6-2s definitely had trouble with more than 32mb of RAM; I had no end of problems (random segfaults and X lockups) when I upgraded my 333Mhz stepping 0 K6-2 box from 32Mb to 160Mb. There is a 2.0-series kernel patch to address this available from http://www.multimania.com/poulot/k6bug.html which I never tried; I replaced it with a stepping 12 450Mhz K6-2 which cost me under £40, and as well as being faster it supports MTRRs too. The bug doesn't show up under Windows, so sell the old K6-2 to a Windows user and buy a new one. -- Adam Sampson az...@gn... |
