Hi everyone! After the highly sucessful use of UML on my business applications, my employer has asked me to test the possibility of using UML in the workplace. They are pretty tight on what they want.. the host and UML must both run RedHat9. So, Ive knocked them together and they run well, apart from one thing: networking. Here are the errors the host gives when it tires to insmod the Tun module (and yes, I have recompiled the module and re-instelled just to make sure its not a bad build somehow): From DMESG on UML: Universal TUN/TAP device driver 1.5 (C)1999-2002 Maxim Krasnyansky tun: Can't register misc device 200 From Host: Using /lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel/drivers/net/tun.o /lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel/drivers/net/tun.o: init_module: Input/output error Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg I thought with seeing input output error that this could be disk, so I thoroughly checked that and its definately not. The ethernet card is 3com 3c905C running on the 3c59x/9xx driver (vortex).
