Run skas mode on the host - if you can't compile a new host kernel for some reason, check into the skas-module one of the contributors on this list submitted (sorry, don't have a link). Also, I believe the max file descriptors issue will go away with skas mode, since there are only 2 processes on the host per UML, instead of the 1 to 1 with tt mode. Use tmpfs as your /tmp/ volume,.OR mount a tmpfs dir some place and prepend "export TMPDIR=/where/you/mounted/tmpfs/" to your ./linux command line. Also, what is the filesystem type on both the host and inside the UMLs? If you are running ext3 any place, you might need to tweak /proc/sys/vm/bdflush. Check out the "update" command in RedHat. These suggestions might not solve your I/O problem, but they are the general practice for getting UML to run efficiently all around. -Chris |
