#369 Color Management/Display ICC Profile/System default does not work as expected

My LCD monitor (Hyundai L90D+) is calibrated with a Datacolor Spyder 3. I find it a bit unintuitive, that I need to set Color Management/Display ICC profile/ to sRGB to match the preview to those applications, that are not color management aware and just use the operating system's settings.
I would have expected the options "System default" and "L90D+ DVI 2013-11-05 D6500 2.2 M-S 3xCurve+MTX (H50K50)" (the ICC profile that is saved by DispCalGUI/ArgyllCMS in %WINDIR%\System32\spool\drivers\color as OS startup default) to work as advertised, but for some reason they produce a much lighter image (probably Gamma 2.2) as e. g. IrfanView oder Firefox do.
I'm guessing that the OS is already applying the color profile. Do you know if it is possible to disable this for a specific window?

Yes, the OS indeed already applies the ICC profile on its own. Probably I'm misinterpreting the option "System Default" to be "Let the system decide about color management" or "None" (i. g. UFRaw doesn't care about a display profile).
Perhaps just a hint in the documentation is necessary to solve this issue.
Regarding your question: To my knowledge, Win7 doesn't allow disabling color management for a specific window or application.

I'm having the same problem on Gentoo Linux.
I'm using argyll-dispwin to calibrate my monitor (it also sets the _ICC_PROFILE atom), which works across the entire X server. UFRaw's preview however seems to apply this calibration again. So the preview I see in UFRaw is different than what I see in literally any other program (Viewnior, GIMP, Firefox, etc.), which makes accurately adjusting colors in UFRaw pretty much impossible.
Under Options there is a "Display color profiles" section that sounds promising, but it is empty (??), similar to this picture:
