Hi Everyone We're going through the final stages of trying to release the much-delayed 0.8 version of the Translate Toolkit. This is in many ways like a 1.0 release because after 0.8 we're going to start implementing a whole bunch of changes, and we want to make sure that people have got a good stable base to work off until the next version is ready. In order to do this, we've created a branch in CVS (translate-toolkit-0-8-branch) that enables us to just fix remaining issues while we get on with more radical chainsaw-hacking of the code. We've made some changes to the underlying code after 0.8rc5, and these produced a few errors (thanks Pavel for testing) that are now fixed. However I'm sure there are other bugs remaining. So we've decided to have a bug day on which we will try and SQUISH as many bugs as possible and get the code released. Note that in this exercise, anybody who uses the toolkit is welcome, not just coders - there is lots that you can do to help! Here's how it will work: The bug day is Thursday 2nd of February 2006 We will pretend to be time zone agnostic, so some people's days won't overlap... We will all gather in the #pootle IRC channel on irc.freenode.net It would help if people have access to CVS so they can quickly test fixes, but if that's too difficult we can try release snapshots as the day progresses. Any bug gathering before the day will also be useful as it means the coder types can start work straight away. Bugs should be filed at bugs.wordforge.org under "Translate Toolkit" It would be helpful if people could install the test framework: follow the instructions at http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/toolkit/index#testing Procedure: * a bug is filed * if possible, a unit test is coded to reproduce what is causing that bug at the lower level * if it is determined that this should be fixed for 0.8, a milestone will be test * developers will feverishly try to fix all bugs set for 0.8, with tests * IRC will be useful for communicating during all of this. I've done a preliminary release as "0.8rc6" for those who want a normal install to be able to test with I'm looking forward to this; it would be great if people who would like to take part indicate so by adding their names to the wiki here: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/toolkit/bugday-0-8 Also please say if anything is unclear / needs clarification All the information I've put here is in that page as well... See you on Thursday! David |
