Don't count on it if the remote files are compressed. I've had that trouble for a few revs. It will write to a (for lack of a better word) catalog file in local:/tmp but when you look at the contents it will claim to be putting the tmp files into that var's setting. Problem is that doesn't happen for compressed files (I think uncompressed works OK). If I had the time to read the bug submission outline so I could supply all the req'd data and follow up I'd file it. When we get our chip into tape-out I'll have time to get involved...
