Thank you, that was quite helpful and I think it definitely pointed me in
the right direction. I see that the types of sensors I am looking for are
commonly provided by competition software. I grabbed the latest linux patch
I could find in the CIG link you gave me. However, it seems to work with
version 1.3.1, not the latest version 1.3.3.

Does anyone know if there is a patch for the latest version floating around
somewhere?

I'm looking into what it's going to take to make the fixes myself, but
given my unfamiliarity with the project, it looks like a bit more than I
bargained for. (Despite the diffs available.) If there is no patch, I may
just go back to 1.3.1, so it's not the end of the world if there isn't one.
