This is very cool indeed! I will use it for sure to insert images. But what I need to insert are PDF files, not images. But I noticed there is now a File button, which you can use to insert a file that is in the file gallery or attached to the current wiki page. That's almost as cool ;-). I can upload the PDF file, and then insert it after the fact using that button. It'll do for now. It would be nice if the File button behaved like the Choose/Upload Image button. Thx for the hints Rick. Edit the page. 2. Put cursor in the position where you want the link. 3. Click the Choose/Upload button. A popup window appears. 4. Click BROWSE to select the image from your PC. (You can also specify into which file gallery to upload the file, its category, etc.) 5. Click Upload 6. After uploading the file, click its name. Tiki closes the popup window and inserts the file in the main page you were editing. -R --- Greetings from Sanford, NC, USA! ----- Original Message ----- From: Desilets, Alain<mailto:Ala...@nr...> To: Tiki users mailing list<mailto:tik...@li...> ; Tikidevelopers<mailto:tik...@li...> Sent: Monday, April 04, 2011 11:47 AM Subject: [Tikiwiki-users] Easiest way to upload a file and insert a link to it at the cursor position I often find myself in a situation where: - I am editing a wiki page, AND - I want to insert a link to a file at the cursor location, AND - The file in question is not in the file gallery and needs to be uploaded from my local HD All the ways I know to do this with Tiki are pretty convoluted. I don't mind doing it, but I am currently working on some sites where users will not be very tech savvy, nor very patient with this kind of stuff. The kind of procedures I know of to do this are along the lines of: - Save the page - File Gallery > Upload File - Browse the file system and upload the file. - Click on additional info and copy and paste the wiki markup for inserting a link to that file -- IMPORTANT: You have to do this at that precise moment, as it seem that this "additional info" page cannot be viewed later on. - Go back to the page you were editing - Click on Edit button, paste the wiki markup you copied from additional info. Are there easier ways to do it? If not, I am surprised, because this is a pretty common operation. A similar thing happens when you need to insert a picture in a page. Ideally, what I would like is something along the following lines: - While the page is opened, click on the insert file button - The dialog has a -- picklist called "file located on", which by default is set to say, "File Gallery". The other option is "My Hard Drive". -- a button called Browse - I pick "My Hard Drive", and click on Browse button and browse my local drive, to upload the file to the gallery. - After that, a link to the newly uploaded file is automatically inserted at the cursor location. If this is too hard to implement, I could go with something like this: - While the page is opened, I click on the "insert file" icon. -- The dialog asks me where the file is located, and what the anchor text should be. -- When I click Insert button, this inserts some sort of plugin like {file(location, anchor)}{file} - I keep editing the page, and might insert several more files that way. - When I save the page, the plugin is rendered as some kind of icon that suggests I need to click on them to upload or specify the file. - When I click on a plugin for which location is "My Hard Drive", I am asked to browse my file system to upload a file. - When I click on a plugin for which location is "File Gallery", I am asked to browse the file gallery and point to the file that should be inserted there. Or maybe there are other ways of going about it. Any thoughts?
