Pretty much every Tcl-level enhancement (that I can think of, aside from Unicode, obviously) in 8.x can be made to work in older 8.x versions, when needed, via a "forward compatability" type proc. This syntax wouldn't. So, folks writing packages will either have to (initially) avoid using the syntax (until 8.5 becomes more wide-spread) or severely limit the size of their potential userbase. If people end up not using it, (either the developers or temporarily disenfranchiesd users), then what's the point of rushing to do it in 8.5 instead of in 9.0? Michael |
