As we've been accepted this year GSoC effort is getting *real*. IMHO next we should: 1. Advertise on the universities. It would be good to know who in the community can advertise Tcl GSoC 2009 at the universities. From D. Richard Hipp I know that there are quite a few Tclers who have contacts with universities. IMHO the most successful way is to ask befriended academic to show 1-2 slides to students during a lecture. An example is http://docs.google.com/Present?docid=dchpzw84_219hntnv2fj&skipauth=true - that is what I've asked Richard Hipp to show during his lecture in Gdańsk. And then we have to engage students in a public discussion on the mailing list or off-list if it is more appropriate. 2. Prioritize & explain to students project ideas. Students have to know what is really important for the community and what project could be "successfully" mentored. It would be nice to express more verbatim what are our expectation, like what student should know and how much time to spend, how the work will really look like. These are just my quick thoughts after getting to know we've been accepted. More to come... --tkosiak |
