Steps to reproduce:

$ mkdir empty_dir
$ wish
% tk_getOpenFile -initialdir empty_dir

Click on the canvas in the file selection dialog.
Press <Esc>.

An error messagebox pops up:

can't read "textList(0)": no such variable
    while executing
"string range $textList($i) 0 $len0"
    (procedure "IconList_Goto" line 29)
    invoked from within
"IconList_Goto $w $Priv(ILAccel,$w)"
    (procedure "tk::IconList_KeyPress" line 5)
    invoked from within
"tk::IconList_KeyPress .__tk_filedialog.icons \x1b"
    (command bound to event)

Observed on tk-8.4.14 (and also previous versions), running on Linux Fedora Core 5.
