No

Just updated from 0.77.0 to 0.78.0 on my Vista Ultimate 32.

Opening a Task, change something in description and Save (OK button) there is now a substantial delay with Task window showing "Not responding" on screen. We are talking about 15 seconds or so.

This delay did not occur in 0.77.0 release

    Hi Pall,

Can you please check for a taskcoach.exe.log file in the folder where Task Coach is installed and attach it here, if any? Also, please remove the TaskCoach.ini file to see whether that helps.

For what it's worth: it works fine on my Windows Vista system :-/

    Thanks, Frank

    TaskCoach.ini for 0.77 and 0.78

Saving preferences in 0.78 made the problem go away.

I attached a .7z file with TaskCoach.ini after saving in 0.78, as well as original 0.77 version.

    Hope it helps,
    Palli

    Ok, here are the results....

It is the saving itself that's taking such a long time in 0.78. I had my 0.77 set to autosave after every change, that's why I noticed on updated task descriptions.

If I uncheck the autosave, make some changes all is at normal speed until I press the save toolbar button, then the long wait.

A little more on my environment:
    - The task list currently contains 1033 tasks. I don't remove finished tasks.
    - No delay noticed on 0.77
    - Removing TaskCoach.ini does not change this fact
    - Reboot has no effect.

No TaskCoach.exe.log file found on my system.

    Please advice,
    Palli

    Hi Pall,

If you could mail me the task file (privately at frank@niessink.com) that would be nice. If not, can you please save the file with 0.77 and with 0.78 and report the sizes? Is the file when saved with 0.78 much bigger?

    Thanks, Frank

    Hi Palli,

Please remove all backup files that are in the same folder as your task file. I think that will help.

    Thanks, Frank

I am having this problem also. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3.

    I should add some details:
For me, it can take as long as a few minutes to save changes to a task (Changes: Start/Due Date, Description, and Category). My PC is a Pentium Dual-Core E5300 @ 2.60GHz and 2GB of RAM running Windows XP Pro SP3.

I tried downgrading to v0.77.0, but TaskCoach informed me task list had been saved by a newer version of TaskCoach and I had to upgrade to open it.

I have used every version of TaskCoach since at least 0.74.1 and this is the first time I've had any issues. Is there a way that I can downgrade to 0.77.0 and use my current task list?

Sorry for multiple posts. Removing the backup files seemed to resolve the problem. Is this an issue that will return slowly as the backups accumulate?

According to comments I got from Frank, then 0.78 should automatically limit the number of backup files to maybe 10 or 15, so this should not be an issue if that is the case.

I still have left to confirm if it works, as Frank asked me to keep it running for about 3 days first and then check.

It seems the performance issue happens when there are a lot of backup files in the same folder as the task file. As a work-around, remove the backup files or move them to another folder. Task Coach itself (starting with release 0.78) will not create a lot of backup files, so the issue should not return.

Please let me know whether that helps.

    Thanks, Frank

A fix was made and checked into the source code repository of Task Coach. The fix will be part of the next release. You will get another notification when that release is available with the request to install the new release and confirm that your issue has indeed been fixed.

If you like, you can download a recent build from http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py to test the fix.

Because a fix has been made for this bug report, the priority of this report has been lowered to 1 and its resolution has been set to 'Fixed'.

    Thanks, Task Coach development team

This bug should be fixed in the latest release of Task Coach. Can
you please install the latest release of Task Coach and confirm
that this bug has indeed been fixed?
