Why would you want to? Syllable is fully self hosted: I have no idea if
it is possible to cross-compile the kernel from another platform.

For the kernel (& *only* the kernel) you could probably use the GCC that
comes with your Linux distribution provided it is capable of producing
IA32 ELF binaries.
