[Syllable-developer] ATI Rage Pro 8MB PCI?

I just bought a cheap-o ATI Rage Pro 8MB PCI card from the local CompUSA. 
Syllable boots just fine, but it reverts to VESA mode.  Arg!

Isn't this card supported?  Is there anything I can try?  /var/log/kernel is not
particularly instructive, to my eyes; it just reports that the various video
drivers fail to initialize and its reverting to VESA.
