You cannot and should not change the STAF/Config/xxx variables. You need to fix your TCP / DNS configuration (outside of STAF) so that your hostname is Automation1, not localhost. Then when STAFProc is started, it will set STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine to your hostname. For example, to change the TCP DNS settings on Linux, you can do something like the following, but use what you want to use for the Hostname (e.g. automation1, etc.) and optionally the DomainName.. Changing the DNS settings on Linux 1. Edit the /etc/sysconfig/network file and change the HOSTNAME line to: HOSTNAME="client1.portland.ibm.com" 2. and add the line: DOMAINNAME="portland.ibm.com" 3. Subject Re: [staf-users] Start process on Windows machine through FC4 machine We have implemented SAFS here which doesn't support STAF Version 3.X. While using STAF V2, when we run command: STAF <WindowsMachine> VAR RESOLVE {STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine} on windows machine, output is: Response -------- wibhu48 Where 'wibhu48' is the name of Windows machine. And, when we run command STAF <FedoraMachine> VAR RESOLVE {STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine} on Fedora machine, output is: Response -------- localhost But, name of Fedora machine is 'Automation1'. I have added command 'VAR STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine=Automation1' to 'STAF.cfg' of Fedora machine & restarted the STAF service, but, output doesn't change. Thanks Sharon Lucas <lu...@us...> wrote: If you're getting RC 7 running a MISC WHOAMI command submitted to your Windows machine, then it would appear that the Windows machine is running STAF V2, not STAF V3, as the WHOAMI request was added to the MISC service in STAF V3. Note that end of service for STAF V2 was April 21, 2006. To verify this, what is the output of: STAF <WindowsMachine> MISC VERSION STAF <FedoraMachine> MISC VERSION Can you upgrade to STAF V3? There are major differences between STAF V2 and STAF V3. In STAF V2, you could configure STAF to use short host names or long host names. In STAF V3, only long host names are used. Thus, in STAF V2, you could use short host names in trust statements if you configured STAF to use short host names. If STAF V3, only long host names are used in trust statements -- and IP addresses are supported as well as wildcards (*, ?) in trust statements. Before upgrading to STAF V3, you would need to read the STAF Migration Guide at http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/stafmigrate.html first as any testcases, etc that you've written that use STAF may need to be changed as request syntax and results for some STAF commands have changed in STAF V3. STAF V3 is not fully backward compatible with STAF V2. If you can't upgrade to STAF V3 now, what is the output of: If using STAF V2, the syntax is: STAF <WindowsMachine> VAR RESOLVE {STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine} STAF <FedoraMachine> VAR RESOLVE {STAF/Config/EffectiveMachine} If using STAF V3, the syntax is: STAF <WindowsMachine> VAR RESOLVE STRING {STAF/Config/Machine} STAF <FedoraMachine> VAR RESOLVE STRING {STAF/Config/Machine} -------------------------------------------------------------- Sharon Lucas IBM Austin, lu...@us...
