However, there is a small minority of CPUs (of which I know the Pentium 4M does not, there may be others.) that won't work with this kernel. (It has something to do with the 64G high memory support being enabled, I believe.) A user of these CPUs can download the source and build the kernel with the provided i686 UP config file which has solved any booting problems in the past. You can mix up kernels and initrds across a cluster, but you have to do the configuration by hand. At the momement, it is painful.
