I've just been reading Bruce Walker's excellent article at = http://foundries.sourceforge.net/clusters/index.pl One question I had was that when he describes the Cluster File System, he talks = about GFS as a standalone FS, and of CFS being layered over other Filesystems = like ext3. No mention was made of layering CFS over GFS. =20 I hope that CFS will indeed layer over GFS. =3D=3D=3D=3D I'm most familiar with Compaq's Tru64 CFS, and with it they effectively do = that. (Different technologies, but similar concept.) That eliminates a SPOF for a node, and also allows a mixture of nodes with = direct connection to the storage and those without. i.e. SPOF, if a node has one FC connection to a backend SAN, and that FC cable = gets cut, the node can continue to operate by sending its disk i/o to a node = that still has an operational FC connection.
