Hello guys, I am new here. :-) just subscribed seconds ago. I am working on the Chinese(simplified) translation. After couple of days, a draft has been done, which covers most pages. As there are some expressions/terms I don't understand, I would like to have someone to explain them to me in English. I just don't want to mis-translate those unsure items. 1> "toggle all" in the message list page. what does it mean? is it as same as "select/unselect all"? 2> under options/folder preferences/, there is a item called "memory search". what does it mean, and what does it do? 3> how do I translate the "trash/sent/drafts" into Chinese (simplified), since there seems no entries for them in .po file. 4> under options/display preference/, there is a item called "Enable Printer Friendly Clean Display", I enabled it, but nothing happened. I don't know what does it do, and therefore can't translate it. could anyone explain this one to me? 5> this problem is not, actually a translation related one. but it's worth to mention. In the list of languages under /options/display preference/, there is a language called Taiwan. Taiwan is NOT a language. The proper term should be called "Chinese (traditional)". Actually, there are a lot of people still using Traditional Chinese all over the world, not only Taiwanese, although they are the major group. Besides, this may cause a serious political issue. Also, the language I am working on is defined as "Chinese", which is incorrect either. It should be called "Chinese (simplified)". I hope these are corrected in next release. 6> In i18n.php file, "Chinese" entry is misconfigured too. I changed it. please see below. ========================================== $languages['zh_TW']['NAME'] = 'Chinese (Traditional)'; # was named as Taiwan $languages['zh_TW']['CHARSET'] = 'big5'; $languages['tw']['ALIAS'] = 'zh_TW'; $languages['zh_CN']['NAME'] = 'Chinese (simplified)'; #was named as Chinese, language code was incorrect too. $languages['zh_CN']['CHARSET'] = 'gb2312'; $languages['cn']['ALIAS'] = 'zh_CN'; =========================================== 7> This is the last one...... for this moment. ;-) After I translate the days(like Mon, Tue, etc.) and Month(like Jan, Feb, etc.) into Chinese. They are not shown correctly. The is a compatibile issue. In Chinese both traditional and simplified, days in a week are named with two characters (each Chinese character contains two bytes, two characters are four bytes), but in English, the short expressions are only three bytes. Therefore, all first Chinese characters of days and months are shown well, but not are the second ones, and this prevent HTML codes from working properly too. At this point, I have though three solutions. 1) Change days and months in Chinese into something like "weekday"(one character) + a number. But the Sunday has to be two characters. I can not call it as something like weekday7, it is too funny to be accepted. 2) make an image for each day and month. then insert into .po file with <img></img> tag. This one seems better, however, as you can see what is going to happen if a user adjusts the font size. 3)the best solution would be to change the way SquirrelMail processes days and months. make it compatible with Chinese. But this is the job for its development team. Any suggestions about this? I appreciate your answers and helps. Thank you very much! Bo Jin. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/ |
