Could you check if PHP safe mode is turned on for your host. See
http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/TestPHPSettings

Go to
plugins/html_mail/fckedit/editor/dialog/fck_spellerpages/spellerpages/server-scripts/

Edit spellchecker.php and change '$tempfiledir = "./";' line to
'$tempfiledir = $attachment_dir;' without single quotes.

Check if your spellcheck starts working, if your website is not running in
safe mode, PHP disable_functions does not block program execution and you
made a change in spellchecker.php
