You can add graphics with this plugin:

Mail icons can be added with this one:

Buttons (instead of text links) can be done with this one:
http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=225

However, I don't think all of these together will still give you quite
what you are looking for overall, but they might help.
