Is anyone interested in taking over maintenance and enhancement of the Bookmarks plugin? The author posted that she's too busy to continue with it, so I'm hoping that someone might step up to enhance it. SM's site says this plugin has had 16606 downloads, so many people must be using it. I find it very useful, but I do not know PHP. I can code HTML and I do good CSS, so I could help with that as well as testing and usability ideas. My first two ideas would seem to be fairly easy to enable. One issue with the Bookmarks plugin is that it is very difficult to edit existing bookmarks or to replace them with a fresh import. If you try to "Delete" a folder, you get an error message "This folder contains subfolders and cannot be deleted". It is painfully tedious to have to manually delete every subfolder. At some point the bookmarks in my SquirrelMail prefs are outdated, so what I really want is to import a fresh set from my desktop. Here are my suggestions: 1. Enable deletion of a folder with recursive deletion of any subfolders. 2. a. Add a new command to delete all bookmarks and all folders (as preparation for importing a fresh set of bookmarks). Or, b. Add a new command to import a fresh set of bookmarks that will *replace* the current set (rather than the current method where new imports always add to what's already there). 3. This one falls into the "wish list" category of a feature that would be great to have, but is likely substantially more work than the previous two ideas: turn the Bookmarks into dynamic, hierarchical menus. This would require javascript, to parse the Bookmarks file and generate menus that open into sub-menus on hover, like a dynamic navigation menu on a web site. This dynamic Bookmarks menu would be more efficient to use (wouldn't require multiple clicks to reach nested bookarks in sub-folders) and would be more like using Bookmarks/Favorites in your local web browser. |
