Most all of your comments will be more applicable when templating is 
implemented.  It's on the plate, but it's also a huge job, so don't hold 
your breath.  Learn about templating in the meantime and we look forward 
to your awesome skin when the time comes!

In the meantime, look at what plugins are available... couldn't tell 
from your mail, but you may not be using Delete/Move/Next (comes with 
SM) or the Preview Pane plugins, amongst others.
