I have written a daemon that allows web sessions to maintain a network connection, i.e. a token-based proxy. I have heard it said that a problem with squirrelmail speed is having to re-authenticate every hit, so I thought it might be of use to you guys. I have used it so far for a PHP-based IRC client and toyed with it for SquirrelMail, but have never used it in a full-out production environment. The CEO gave me the OK to let this out open-source, so if anyone is interested let me know. I have the patch to a fairly recent imap.php to make it work. Whether it would speed things up, I can't really say -- the overhead of passing everything through an additional daemon might outweigh the crunching of the passwords. I tested it with the profiling I built into the app both ways, but that can't count the forwarding overhead. Nice app, btw. |
