A general comment: When I first started using SM, I though use of MySQL or PostgreSQL seemed a bit of an overkill, and wondered why would anyone want to do this? After migrating over to it about 3 weeks ago, and then rewriting the sasql plugin to use more of the advanced features like languages, locales, push addressbook entries to whitelist, checkbox mass deletion from whitelist, purge all whitelist, purge all blacklist, and other items.... I can say this: use of a sql backend for spamassassin, SM prefs, and SM addressbook rocks! It saves so much work in coding file-based access and all of the problems associated with that, *and* it works much better in enterprise-level use of SM, since it is possible to fully load balance multiple SM servers that share a single replicated *SQL DB permitting a great degree of fault tolerance and solve so many other problems. If you have not yet used the *SQL based storage of settings, addressbookand spamassassin stuff, try it! If you are a coder of SM plugins, use of a DB can really save you from writing code that the DB will do for you. File locking? Hah! Dealing with updates to only one field, doing a "grep" for data in a file? the DB can be searched. Remove an option, easy. (As for sasql mods, I need to get more free time to check code security in data-cleaning as a result of the mods and then send them to the original author.) -ME > Blane, > > Vadmin does not work as is with SM 1.4.
