[smartmontools-support]How to 'update' smartd?

Ive looked at the RPM
Ive looked at the source.
The source has dates in 2004.
Now I see daily (almost) updates to the 'database' on smartmontools-database
but I have no idea where these are going.

There doesnt seem to be a database in the tarball, so where is it?
If I have smartd on my system (and it doesnt know about my disks) how do
I get access to the latest and greatest?

I guess I could read the code line for line, but I really dont have time
for that.

Great product, but no indication of how to update it for more recent disks.

Can someone point me in the right direction, this has got to be a simple 
question.
