>I installed 6 machines with an identical image of Win XP SP2. >My MSI of SmartD would not start on any of them. When I've seen this MSI error it has always been related to the fact that the installer is 16bit rather than 32bit. That could produce that error. I mention this because that is the most common reason the games you mentioned produce this error. To test whether or not this is the issue: 1. Pick a machine that exhibits the issue as designate it GuineePig1 :) 2. Put a Windows XP cd in the drive. Close out of any autoloaded programs. 3. Click Start>Run. Type in CMD and press enter. 4. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command: expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com exit 5. Run your program again. That's all you need to do to test this issue. You've just allowed that computer to run 16 bit applications (assuming the stars and your IT department are aligned). If it works, perhaps a rebuild of the installer is in order. Brian. (Additional info at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767) |
