Hi again, I've got a large RAID running on two 3ware cards (smartmontools is version 5.33), and want to run checks overnight on every disk. My smartd.conf looks like (there are extra flags '-o on -S on' on every line, but removed to avoid wrapping): /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,0 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././20|L/../../5/21) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,1 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././21|L/../../5/23) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,2 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././22|L/../../6/01) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,3 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././23|L/../../6/03) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,4 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././00|L/../../6/05) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,5 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././01|L/../../6/07) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,6 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././02|L/../../6/09) /dev/twe0 -d 3ware,7 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././03|L/../../6/11) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,0 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././04|L/../../6/21) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,1 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././05|L/../../6/23) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,2 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././06|L/../../7/01) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,3 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././07|L/../../7/03) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,4 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././08|L/../../7/05) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,5 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././09|L/../../7/07) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,6 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././10|L/../../7/09) /dev/twe1 -d 3ware,7 -H -f -m root -s (S/../.././11|L/../../7/11) Short tests take a couple of minutes, long tests a couple of hours - so there should be no overlap (or at least not much) when they're running. However, what I actually get running looks like (exert from syslog): Dec 21 21:31:53 smartd[24270]: Device: /dev/twe0 [3ware_disk_01], starting scheduled Short Self-Test. Dec 22 00:31:54 smartd[24270]: Device: /dev/twe0 [3ware_disk_04], starting scheduled Short Self-Test. Dec 22 03:31:54 smartd[24270]: Device: /dev/twe0 [3ware_disk_07], starting scheduled Short Self-Test. Dec 22 06:31:54 smartd[24270]: Device: /dev/twe1 [3ware_disk_02], starting scheduled Short Self-Test. Dec 22 09:31:54 smartd[24270]: Device: /dev/twe1 [3ware_disk_05], starting scheduled Short Self-Test. I know there is a 30-minute enforced delay between tests, but that should only be with respect to tests on the same disk. Is there a sane reason why am I only getting tests every 3 hours? Jeremy |
