I just installed smartmontools 5.39.1 on one of my machines which runs Win2k SP4 on a Seagate ST318406LW attached to a Symbios-based U2W HA, regular Adaptec ASPI drivers installed. While reading SMART data works fine, attempting to execute any self tests fails more often than not: | Long (extended) offline self test failed [unit | attention reported, try again] Occasionally it *does* work though. By contrast, 5.38 always gets it right. Any insight? I still remember that the drive was a bit fussy to begin with. Console log is attached.
