I just tested this drive in Linux: Iomega P/N 31641800 R model MDHD500-U I couldn't find it on Iomega's site. I think it's this drive, but I'm not 100% sure: http://www.amazon.com/Iomega-Desktop-Drive-Hi-Speed-External/dp/B000HI9O5W/ref=pd_sim_e_3 It wasn't autodetected by smartctl and none of the -d usb* or sat[,12|16] options worked. # uname -a Linux linux 2.6.29.4 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 28 17:22:17 GET 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ------------------------------------------------------------- # smartctl -a /dev/sdc smartctl 5.39 2009-06-03 20:10 [x86_64-suse-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-9 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net /dev/sdc: Unknown USB bridge [0x059b:0x0275 (0x001)] Smartctl: please specify device type with the -d option.
