Hi All, Bokhan: thanks for the debug output! Please continue to watch this and tell me if the error is ALWAYS associated with the SMART STATUS CHECK command. That command has somewhat different syntax and behavior than other SMART commands. If the error is always associated with that command, this will help us to track down the problem. Hank: any idea what is going wrong? I have not seen any other reports of problems with the Areca smartmontoosl interface. Nor have I seen this problem on my 32 Areca boxes. The file that Bokhan attached showed an I/O error when accessing one of the disks. But this error does not occur with every access. Christian: I wonder if this is associated with the fact that the ata_command_interface() can return +1 in the case of a SMART STATUS CHECK failure (not just 0 and -1 as for the other commands). Cheers, Bruce On Wed, 5 Nov 2008, Bokhan Artem wrote: > > Bruce Allen : >> Sorry, I didn't ask quite the right question.
