I just posted a message about a Hitachi drive reporting SMART as supported but disabled, but which does not respond to commands to enable SMART. The 5.37 code only says "Probable ATA device behind a SAT layer", but "-d sat" does not work. I can use "-d scsi" in the new driver to get some information, but it is missing the Device identity. A summaryfollows. The first exampel comes from the OS, SLES10 smartmontools-5.33-20.2. The latter two come from smartmontools-5.37. $ /usr/sbin/smartctl -a /dev/sda smartctl version 5.33 [ia64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-4 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Device: ATA HDT722525DLA380 Version: A96A Serial number: VDS41BT4E9AJ3J Device type: disk Local Time is: Mon Dec 10 17:32:09 2007 EST Device supports SMART and is Disabled Temperature Warning Disabled or Not Supported SMART Health Status: OK Error Counter logging not supported Error Events logging not supported Device does not support Self Test logging $ ./smartctl -a /dev/sda smartctl version 5.37 [ia64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Probable ATA device behind a SAT layer Try an additional '-d ata' or '-d sat' argument. $ ./smartctl -d scsi -a /dev/sda smartctl version 5.37 [ia64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Serial number: VDS41BT4E9AJ3J Device type: disk Local Time is: Mon Dec 10 17:32:21 2007 EST Device supports SMART and is Disabled Temperature Warning Disabled or Not Supported SMART Health Status: OK Error Counter logging not supported Device does not support Self Test logging |
