On <virtual name>: that's the slash virtual user---the same one in DBIx::Password and the one that will be set as SlashVirtualUser in httpd conf files when you install your site. There are 3 "users": 1) The user and group that ones the files and that slashd runs as 2) The database user, that needs permissions to perform operations such as add, delete etc. on the database associated with your slash installation 3) The slash virtual user. This is the user in DBIx::Password that actually connects to the database as the user in #2 and is also the one in your slash's httpd.conf file. Most people set user/group via "make install" and the virtual user either when installing DBIx::Password or manually when adding or changing some of the variables later. I'm no expert on slash--I'm sure I'll be promptly corrected if I'm in err somewhere. I think you can confirm most if not all of this by reading the docs...I'm pretty sure I saw it in there somewhere. (When all else fails check the INSTALL file and see if you missed a step, fwiw/imho.) -mj On Tue, 2 Jul 2002, Kyle Krieg wrote: > I'm thinking I'm going to reinstall slash with an actual user.
