Found the post with the tuning parameters; just passing the information in case I lose it again ;) =20 Regards =20 -RH =20 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Mahoney" <rmahoney@...> To: <sguil-users@...> Sent: Friday, March 04, 2005 8:03 PM Subject: Re: [Sguil-users] Am I screwed? =20 > On Fri, Mar 04, 2005 at 10:35:27AM -0600, Paul Schmehl wrote: >> Are you willing to share your script? > <snip> >=20 > Yes, no problem, I can share them. They are attached. >=20 Thanks, Ron. In return, I'll share something we have recently learned. We played with some buffer memory sizes and increased the performance of mysql dramatically. We reduced the time to delete 1,000,000 db entries from 2 hours 17 minutes to 45 minutes. This is on FreeBSD 5.3 with mysql 4.0.x. =20 We created a .my.cnf file in /root and put this in it: =20 [mysqld] set-variable=3Dkey_buffer_size=3D256M set-variable=3Dtable_cache=3D1024 set-variable=3Dsort_buffer_size=3D16M set-variable=3Dread_buffer_size=3D4M =20 We actually started our testing with 128, 512, 8 and 2, which are all twice the default size. (This server has 384MB of ram. With more ram, you might get even better performance by increasing these buffer sizes.) =20 Don't know if it's useful to anyone, but you can't beat the price. :-) =20 Paul Schmehl (pauls@...)
