Drag-and-drop support would be great for dragging files
into a new archive or extracting from an existing
archive. It's very inconvenient to have to type the path
of where to extract the file(s).

I was just about to make the same request. There's no sense
in a modern program not having drag and drop features.

I third this. Without having drag & drop it's as good as
pzunzip or some other DOS based program. Indeed to suggest
it was the only reason i even came to the 7z tracker :)

Until drag-and-drop support is added, I"m not sure I can
replace my other compression programs with 7zip.

It would be much more convenient. TIA.

I agree, WinZip (the other zip GUI I use) makes life very easy
by allowing the objects in a zip to be treated as normal files
and to interact with other OLE drag/drop enabled applications
    like files from the Explorer.

I agree, a very useful feature.

Would be nice to add right-click drag & drop, too (Extract
    here / Extract to *\).

Great idea, 7-Zip would be perfect if it had this faeture.

I agree. I'd like to see this too.

I'd also like to request Drag and Drop, certainly for
extracting files. I personally use 7Zip for everything, but
friends who've seen it say they prefer WinZip simply becase
    of this feature.

I give my vote to drag and drop support in 7zip. I have just
begun using it, and it is now the only one I use. Drag and
drop would make it so much better.

I vote for this too. It would be nice to be able to drag one
or more files from the opened archive to the desktop.

It seems already possible in 4.15 beta to drag files to the
archive from desktop. I'm not sure is this what others have
been hoping for? That means, you need to open the archive
for example by double clicking it and then you can drag
    items into the 7-Zip window.

It is far more useful to be able to drag out of the archive and
into explorer. Compare using 7-Zip and WinZip for a few days
and see the difference. Despite having better technology 7-
Zip often feels like a wrapper for a command-line technology.
I shouldn't have to type a path into a box when I want to
extract. WinZip on the other hand has a very easy UI and
    poor performance.

Ditto on the drag and drop request. It is almost ready to
    replace Winzip/WinRar.

Another vote right here! This is really the only blocker
right now to massive widespread usage of this program; it's
    compression is fabulous!

Two way drag and drop (into/out of archive) is a must to get
    more people to use this.

Yes I think so too. Nearly every packer application program
has dragndrop support and this makes extracting much more
    easier.

100% Agree, it would be fine if one of the next version
    would support this.

Thanks, it would be an excellent feature!

Adding this functionnality will make this soft the best !
I'm also thinking about a right-click drag and drop option.

I was also about to make this request, and if i'm not wrong,
this functionality has been requested several times.
This is the only thing needed to completely beat winzip,
    winrar, etc.
Other than that, I think this program is the best compession
    utility out there.

If you want to add partial drag and drop (have context menu
when you drag an archive file) check this:
    http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1196666&group_id=14481&atid=314481
It's just a simple registry addon and takes 10 seconds to do.

I want this feature too. It would be great, if it were
    implemented.

Is there a way to sponsor this feature ? I'm ready to pony
up some $, and if you all add your part, someone might find
it attractive enough do actually do the work ?!

    We've got it - version 4.23 has drag & drop ! Download & enjoy.
No more need for WinRar & WinZip...
