For various reasons I tried to do an absolute clean
checkout of the sddc module. Logging in worked fine
and the checkout started fine but then:

U sdcc/device/examples/mcs51/asmblink/blink.lnk
cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot rename
file.new.blink.lnk to blink.lnk: No such file or directory

This is rather problematic :-)

This is fixed. I renamed to blink_lnk and
then made the scripts/makefile change to
blink.lnk. My guess is that cygwin is trying
to do something smart with .lnk files, the
extension is used for desktop program links.

Problem is indeed now fixed. I suspect your hypothesis that
Cygwin is doing things with .lnk files is a good one given
that .lnk is a Windows special file extension for
    symbolic-lik like files.

    Russel.

PS. Someone needs to change the status on this bug report
    to closed.
